Mendeley Desktop Update 1.3.1 - Ubuntu 11.10
A new release just came out for MD. It is version 1.3.1, and update manager in Ubuntu 11.10 automatically installed it this time!
Hi Benjamin. Do you mind writing what you have tried or done and from what version you are updating (1.1 to 1.3.1, 1.3 to 1.3.1, etc.)? I had problems with updating to 1.3 from 1.1 in Ubuntu 11.10. Check out this post from me:
If the Ubuntu system updates did not automatically grab the Menedeley update, then you can try typing in the terminal the commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mendeleydesktop
However, I doubt that will work because it didn't work for me when my version was stuck on 1.1 and I was attempting to update to a newer version (1.3).
I haven't tried it. It seems as if others have tried as well but with no luck either. From this link, http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/182382-mendeley-can-t-get-launched-, the support team (Mendeley) says they haven't tried MD on Ubuntu 12.04.
Not much help here, but you can try support forums for Ubuntu to see if anyone has answers there.
I had no luck updating MD to 1.3.1 on Ubuntu 11.10...any advice?

What worked for me was going here:
http://www.mendeley.com/download-mendeley-desktop/ubuntu/instructions/
and downloading the latest .deb of MD. I then typed in the terminal the command:
sudo dpkg -i
which in my case for ver. 1.3 was:
sudo dpkg -i mendeleydesktop_1.3_amd64.deb
Just make sure you are in the directory when executing the command or point to the directory within the command itself. For example,
sudo dpkg -i Downloads/mendeleydesktop_1.3_amd64.deb
Hope this helps, if not then we can see what you have tried and done then go from there.
I've since been able to get it to launch, but now trying in Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2. Has anyone been able to get MD to launch in Ubuntu 12.04, Alpha 2?
